Obituary

Bettie L Rhymes Hamilton was born March 10, 1940, to the late Mr. Joshua Rhymes and Estella Dixon Rhymes.

She attended school at Living Green Baptist Church and later transferred to Fredrick Douglas High School where she graduated with the class of 1958.

Bettie entered the workforce after graduating and was employed at Ferndale Lake Club. She transitioned to work for Holman's Chair Factory. Early in her career she when into the dietary field working at Pittsburg Nursing Center, EMS Pittsburg, Villa Nursing Home, and she retired from Mt. Pleasant Independent School District.

Bettie was a devoted matriarch whose love and guidance helped raise not only her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but also extended to the lives of her great-great-grandchildren. She remained actively involved in their lives until her health began to decline.

On May 2, 2008, Bettie was united in holy matrimony with Booker T. Hamilton. Their union was one of love, companionship, and faith, and they shared thirteen blessed years of marriage until his passing.

Bettie was a faithful and dedicated member of Living Green Baptist Church, where she lifted her voice in the choir, served diligently on the Usher Board, and fulfilled the role of Sunday School secretary. Prior to her health declining, she was honored to serve as Church Mother, a role she carried with wisdom, compassion, and a nurturing spirit.

The Lord called Bettie home Monday, February 9, 2026, at Focus Care in Gilmer, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parent, bothers Willie James, Cleo, Ramon, and Charles Rhymes.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Anthony Rhymes of San Antonio, Tx, Willie (Miyonde) Rhymes of Pittsburg, Tx, and Cedric Rhymes Greenville, SC. Her daughters Carolyn Avinger Egbujonuma, and Vickie (Stacy) Rhymes both of Pittsburg, Tx. Her stepchildren Dewayne (Estelle) Hamilton of Tulsa OK, Larry (Carla) Hamilton of Pittsburg Tx, Fred (Melissa) Norris of Argyle, Tx, Courtney (Deric) Blanton of Jefferson, Tx, Chimiya and Danasha Hamilton of Pittsburg, Tx. Sister -in- law's Jackie Rhymes of St, Louis, MO, Mollie Hamilton of Desoto, Tx and Lodean (James) Jones. Twenty – Six grandchildren, twenty-One great grandchildren, and six great - great grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by two special cousins Theresa Dean and Diana Hurndon, and host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
