Demetrice Undrea Hunter was born on March 31, 1977, to the late Thomas Hunter and

Wyvonne Anthony Hunter. He entered this world as Christa's little brother and grew into a

loving big brother to Anthony and Theresa. As the son of an active-duty Air Force officer,

Demetrice experienced life in several states during his formative years. The family

eventually settled in Austin, Texas, where he attended Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ) High

School and became a faithful member of Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church.

He went on to pursue higher education at Baylor University, where he joined Kappa Alpha

Psi Fraternity, Inc. and met the love of his life. Demetrice graduated with a degree in

Business Administration and later married his college sweetheart. Two years after their

union, their joy multiplied with the arrival of their daughter, Julia. Known fondly as "the baby

holder," Demetrice embraced fatherhood with open arms, proudly spoiling Julia with every

desire of his heart.

His faith remained central throughout his life. At Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church,

he served faithfully—singing in the choir, assisting in the sound booth, and becoming an

ordained deacon.

In later years, Demetrice and his family relocated to Gladewater, where they continued to

be surrounded by family and friends. He attended Rising Star Church of God in Christ,

where he supported the ministry wholeheartedly—whether serving on programs, oƯering

his signature warm hugs, or encouraging the youth's endeavors, even as his health

declined.

Through every challenge, Demetrice remained positive. He never complained. Instead, he

oƯered his steady response, "I'm okay." He remained strong for the ones he loved until the

very end, giving life his all.

An avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, Demetrice's favorite expression was "Fly, Eagles, Fly." On

Saturday, September 20, 2025, he gained his wings and, like the eagles he so loved, soared

high into the arms of Jesus.

Demetrice will be remembered as a kind and devoted husband and father whose answer

was always "yes" to Visa and Julia. He was a loyal brother and steadfast friend. Those who

knew him admired his quiet strength, his clean shoes and spotless car, and his love for

gadgets and electronics. Children will remember "Buddy" or "Uncle D" as playful and

silly—screaming louder than them during video games—and he passed on his humor, love

of music, and wit to Julia. Through her, and in the hearts of those who loved him, his spirit

will live on.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Wyvonne Hunter; grandparents, Edd

Wade and Irene Anthony; uncle, Charles Anthony; aunt, Barbara Ingram; and cousins,

Victor Anthony, Donald Kenney, Corey Ingram, and LaToya Anthony.

He leaves to cherish his memory: the love of his life, his wife, Sonya "Visa" Sutphen Hunter;

his daughter, Julia Hunter; sisters, Christa (James) Fortune and Theresa Hunter; brother,

Anthony Hunter; his father- and mother-in-law, Harry and Alethea Sutphen; nephews,

Xavier Linton, Ahmad Perkins, Khayden Sutphen, Maxwell Hunter, Camden Sutphen, A'din

Hunter, Harrison Hunter, and Carpenter Sutphen; nieces, Kyla Sutphen, Amari Perkins,

Carrington Sutphen, Cori Sutphen, Chloe Sutphen, Savanna Hunter, and Camille Sutphen;

his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Amanda (Elliott) Perkins, Travis (Sharilyn) Sutphen, and

Justin (Kristi) Sutphen; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends.
