Obituary

Mother Doretha Marie McGill - Criner was born to Elder Elzie & Gladys Berry Sr. on September 8, 1944 in Wood County. She is a graduated of W.B. Clark High School, Quitman, Texas in 1942. In her early years she became a member of Mt. Calvary Church Of God In Christ, Quitman Texas under the leadership of the late Elder Ralph L. Williams and later became a member of her father's church Jacksonville Church Of God In Christ, Emory, Texas. She served as a faithful member as Sunday School teacher, for many years until the passing of her parents Elder & Sister Elzie Berry Sr. Doretha then became a member of her home church again Mt. Calvary Church Of God In Christ, where she served as Church Treasure. She started her career at the Wood County Central Hospital in 1963. Doretha later married Roger McGill September 17, 1963 and to this union three children were born; Glen McGill, Debra McGill-Peoples, Lydell McGill. She worked at the Wood County Central Hospital for 20 years and before she retired in September 2006 she was promoted to the Supervisor of Housekeeping. She later married Billy R. Criner in September of 1997 who precedes her in death; to this union no children were born. Doretha was a member of the American Business Women's Association, where she received an award for Women of the Month. Mother Doretha Criner has served as a member of the Democratic Party in Quitman, Texas. She also served as the treasure of W.B. Clark School Reunion. Mother Criner was installed as the Church Mother of the Mt. Calvary COGIC November 12, 2017 and served faithfully until call to glory. She is preceded in death by her husband, Billie R. Criner, her parents Elder Elzie and Sis. Gladys Berry Sr. , Sisters, Charlene Harper, Saide Hunter, Frankie Gunter, Brother, Baby Boy Berry, Willie Berry, and Robert Berry. She leaves to cherish her memories her sons. Glen McGill, Lydell McGill, of Quitman, Texas, one daughter Debra peoples, Bossier City Louisiana, (God Son) Floyd Brown, Palestine, Texas, Grandchildren, Erica Potter, Dallas, Texas, Anthony Peoples, and Cody McGill Quitman, Texas, Sisters, Linda Farley, Rosemary McClain Dallas, Texas, Brothers Travis Berry, Dallas, Texas, Elzie Berry Jr., Wilmer Texas. Host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
