Obituary

A new year brings new Blessings. Edna Muriel Askew affectionately known as Edna, was born to Ozine and Leah Askew on New Year's Day 1952 in Pittsburg, Texas. One of 8 children, Edna was a lively, mischievous, funny, and loud child. To her family and friends, she was the life of the party and loved to laugh. Edna attended school in Pittsburg, TX and she graduated from Douglas High School in 1970. In school, she loved music. Edna played the trombone in band.

Edna met the love of her life Richard Bratton Sr. in high school. They were married on June 28, 1974. God Blessed this union with 4 beautiful children. Edna held several jobs over the years. However, Pittsburg ISD and Bus 16 held a special place in her heart. "Mrs. Askew" as the kids on her route called her, drove the bus in Pittsburg for over 30 years until her retirement in 2016.

Agape is the best way to describe how Edna loved. She was and will always be the backbone and glue that holds her family together. Although her career was in transportation, her real job was nurturing and loving everyone that she encountered. Edna was Aunt Edna to the masses. Over the years, she touched and influenced many lives for the better. Her love and legacy extends further than her hands alone could ever reach.

Edna passed away in the early morning hours on October 23, 2023. She was preceded in death by her mother Leah and father Ozine, sisters Charlie Mae Mike and Jeanette Searcy, and brother Bernard Askew. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband Richard Bratton Sr; children Tyrone Rogers (April), Lakeda Monroe (Thaderus), Richard Bratton Jr, and Angela Foster (Nievan); four siblings Robert Askew, Willie Askew, Laura Wickerson and Shapamela Poole; 21 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, special friends and loved ones.
