Elder Cory Sebastian Porter was born in Tyler, Texas to Evelyn Mae Porter and Johnnie B. Dixon. After the death of his mother and grandmother, Cory and his siblings were adopted and raised by the late Bishop Cornelius F. Porter and the late Mrs. Lillian G. Porter and later Mrs. Gwendolyn Porter after her marriage to Bishop Porter.
Cory attended Stewart Middle School and Robert E. Lee High School. He went on to attend Tyler Junior College then transferred to Texas College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He later earned his Master's degree in Business Management at the University of Phoenix. After college, Cory moved from Tyler to Dallas, TX to begin his career in the healthcare industry, where he worked in direct care, case management for the homeless, and as an advocate for individuals with disabilities.
In 2006 Cory married the love of his life, Mrs. Latoya Johnson Porter and together they shared a life of service, ministry, and travel.
Cory was a servant at heart, loved his family, and enjoyed helping others in any capacity. At a young age Cory served faithfully at Porter's Chapel Church of God In Christ as a drummer and church musician. He was also a faithful member of the Texas Lone Star Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction under the leadership of Bishop D.L. Smith, Sr., Bishop C.F. Porter, and Bishop Don V. Nobles. His call to the ministry came in 2011 and he became a licensed and ordained Elder in the Church of God In Christ in 2012. Cory and his wife Latoya became active members of Kingdom Harvest C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Auxiliary Bishop Dexter L. Coleman Sr. and served in various ministries.
Elder Porter loved business and serving in the Lord's Church. He served as Pastor of Open Arms Church of God In Christ in Dallas, TX for the past two years and was recently appointed to the office of General Overseer of Finances for the United Churches Worldwide Fellowship under the leadership of Bishop Ivory Stafford.
Elder Porter is preceded in death by: Bishop Cornelius F. Porter, Mrs. Lillian G. Porter, and Evelyn Mae Porter.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 15 years, Mrs. Latoya Johnson Porter of Rockwall, TX, Father and Mother in-law, Supt. Pervis and Sharlie Johnson of Kilgore, TX, Mother Gwendolyn Porter of Tyler, TX, Pastor Johnnie Porter (Robyn) of Villa Rica, GA, LaTunia Porter Williams of New Orleans, LA, Theresa Scott (Michael) of Tyler, Yolanda Nelson Porter of Tyler, two sisters in-laws, a brother in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
