Harold "Whisper" Ray Sands
March 18, 1932, to August 11, 2021
Harold, 89 of Pittsburg Texas passed away at his home August 11, 2021. He enlisted in the Navy when he was 18 years old in the winter of 1950 & was stationed in China Lake California as an aircraft mechanics helper he was honorably discharged in October of 1954. He was a very proud patriot. He had several odd jobs throughout the country until he became a Union Pipe fitter in 1968. He took great pride in the fact that he was a 50-year Pipe Fitter Union Member and had traveled all over the United States and Canada. He had an affinity for reading, keeping cacti, collecting rocks & had a very vast collection at the time of his passing. Whisper had a huge passion for acquiring cars as well and has had some very unusual vehicles throughout his life including a 'Cadabago' that was a Cadillac Hearse with a motorhome body. In all his travels and collecting he made many friends most of which he stayed in contact with. He had friends in all 50 states and could call on any one of them in a time of need as they could him. He was extremely fond of auctions and yard sales. He was a very giving person and would always take great joy in gifting his treasures.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Inez (Schell) Sands, Brothers Jerry, Wayne, Kenneth & Riley, Sister Wanda Kanode, Nephews Larry Layton & James Sands, Grandson Jason Bordelon, Granddaughter Stephanie Petty, Great Grandson Kyle Harvey & Great-Granddaughter Alyssa Brown. He is Survived by special friend Dorothy Brown of Mount Pleasant Tx, Children; Connie (Kenny) Bordelon of Wheatland WY, Monte (Nancy) McCleery of Grosse Tete LA, Mike (Deb) McCleery of Riverdale ND, Carla (Art) Petty of Custer SD, Glen (Linda) of Sand Springs OK, & Jennifer Fertig (Rudy Peinhauu8ot) of Sapulpa OK, Jeremy (Lace) Zuege of Fall Creek WI, 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren & many nieces and nephews.
There will be a Memorial service at the Witness Tower in Pittsburg at 10 am on Saturday Sept 4th 2021 with Pastor Randy Stracener officiating. Internment will be in Zwolle La on Sunday Sept 5th.
