Obituary

Howard "Tom" Duffie was born July 28, 1954 to Mr. S.G. and Mrs. Ella Mae Hooks Duffey in Leesburg, Texas. Howard accepted Christ at an early age. He joined Myrtle Springs CME Church when he was a "lad of a boy". He was a faithful servant of Myrtle CME for many years. When he was not at his church home, he could be found at many churches throughout the community helping them with their engagements. He later joined New Life Baptist Church in May 2019. He is best known as the "Sweet Potato Man"! He could be found plying his produces at "his spot" many days. These days also included the last few months of his life. He provided his customers with the best produce that could be found in these parts. He did not take his job lightly. He did his very best to ensure that everyone received their items in a timely manner, at the best price and with a few stories to go along with it! Tom's boisterous nature and booming voice could intimidate some and make others laugh like there was no tomorrow. All of friends and family knew his bark was a lot bigger than his bite. His heart was so big that he would see your need and give you the shirt off his back. Tom is preceded in death by his father, S.G.; and mother, Ella Mae Duffey; two brothers; S.G. Jr., Elmo Lene; sister, Ella Mae Duffey; one grandson, Tranel Duffey. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Patricia A. Duffey of Pittsburg, TX; sons James and Travis Duffey of Fort Worth, TX; two sisters, Catherine Allen of Mt. Pleasant, TX and Dee Dee (Pinki Lene) Kennedy Burns of Arlington, TX.; one brother, Bo Hollins of Suplher Springs, TX; two uncles, Elton Hooks Jr. and George L. Hooks; two aunts, Clematine Dixon and Willie Fae Flemming and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins. He also leaves many acquaintances and others who called him their friend.
