Jessie Mae (Sneed) Cleaver was born September 30, 1941 in Austin, Texas to the parents of Arthur Buel and Josephine Sneed. Jessie was the eighth of ten children. She completed her early childhood education in Austin, Texas and later moved to Lubbock, Texas to reside with her oldest sister while completing her high school education at Dunbar High School. During her time at Dunbar High School, Jessie was an active member of several clubs and the girls basketball team. While there she met a guy named Lowell H. Cleaver who struck her nerve but gained her attention. After becoming high school sweethearts and graduating with the Class of 1960, the two became one as Mr. and Mrs. Cleaver on November 28, 1960. Jessie and Lowell's journey of life together began to flourish after moving to Dallas, Texas with the birth of five daughters Shelia, Ronda, Sheri, Melanie and Sherlinda. Jessie began putting some of her best qualities and skills to work as a technically trained cosmetologist, beautician, and a tollway attendant for the North Dallas Tollway until she received instructions from the Lord to fulfill her best employment as a stay at home Mom. If you knew her well, you knew that she loved giving people nicknames. Even more she enjoyed being entertained as she often would say "(putting on a show)". Jessie's jubilant spirit loved the sound of music that made her happy enough to wave and clap her hands and sometimes and a little moving and grooving. Some of those great sounds included Smokey Robinson, Al Green, the Temptations and rolling over to her gospel with Rance Allen being her favorite. Her joy of entertainment also stretched out to attending high school football games, parades, church services, family reunions, but at the top of her list was her own family time with her husband, her girls, grandkids, and great grandkids. Jessie has always been a devoted surrendering Woman of God since her childhood. During her Life in Jesus Care she attended Greater Mount Zion of Austin, Texas, St. Luke of Lubbock, Texas, St. Phillips of Dallas, Texas, Community First Baptist Church Dallas, Texas, and the New Lancaster Community Baptist Church Lancaster, Texas where she served as first lady for thirty-four years until she received the call to collect her faithful servant reward on April 15, 2020. She was a true soldier even when her body was full of pain she kept a positive attitude, never complaining but always professing "I know the Lord is bragging on me". She was preceded in death by her Parents Arthur and Josephine, four brothers, Albert, David, Theodore and James, two sisters Annie Sanders, and Louise Torrance. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband of fifty-nine years Pastor Lowell H. Cleaver, five daughters, Shelia Briggs(James), Ronda Williams(Donald) Sheri Warren, Melanie Scott, and Sherlinda Rodgers, twelve Grandchildren, eight Grandsons-four granddaughters, nineteen great grandkids one sister Dorothy (AB)Lampkin Fort Worth, Texas, two brothers Arthur (Clem) Sneed Austin, Texas Bob Sneed Killeen Texas. Brothers-in-law: Jeremiah (Charlesetta) Cleaver, Larry Cleaver, Sisters-in-law: Diane Sneed, Deloris Richards, Marsha Cleaver and a special friend of over fifty years Dora Gardner and a host of nephews, nieces and extended family.
