Obituary

Our beloved and caring LaKendrick Dion Alfred, was born to us on Oct. 3, 1996 to the parentage of JoNita Alfred and Larry Howard Turner. He was affectionately known to his mother as 'My Sonshine' and 'KenKen' to his sisters, aunts & uncles, family and friends. He attended the Lancaster Independent School District where he played football and was a wrestler and later graduated from the Dallas Can Academy in January 2016. He started his understandings into Christianity at an early age under his grandfather and Pastor Joe Charles Alfred, Sr. at Full Gospel Deliverance Tabernacle. His family later joined the Greater Harvest Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor, Bishop Corby Bush where he was baptized and held his membership at Greater Harvest until his passing. When growing up, he was known as a good dare-devil… he was a true 'boy' indeed as he got joy out of jumping off the rooftop of their 2-story house with his friends. He landed every time and completed it with a 'roll'. He was the 'calm' to Nyesha's rowdiness (eldest sister). LaKendrick would tell her 'it's not that serious' and he would proceed to tell her jokes to cheer her up which included impersonations, shaking his leg and pointing his finger; just to get the biggest laugh out of her. He loved to call himself the Gorilla Kid because of his big muscles. He would do 200 pushups almost daily and to add to his workout, he would have his sister London sit on his back. He loved being a big brother to London where he would give her tips on her backwards flips. His gourmet dish to cook for her was 'noodles'. When he would go to the store with his sisters, he always looked at them and said "You got a Dollar?" He is known for speaking on another level, being wise beyond his years and priding himself on being 'the peacemaker' in situations. Aunts and uncles could always count on him to do as ask and never gave them a lick of trouble. LaKendrick was employed by the Mesquite Sanitation Department until his passing. He leaves those to remember his big heart and courageous ways; His mother, JoNita Sims; Step-father: Albert Sims; Sisters: Nyesha Alfred (Tydus), London Sims; Father: Larry Howard Turner; Grandfather: Pastor Joe C. Alfred and Granny Vivian Alfred; Paternal Grandmother: Ruby Turner; Niece/Nephew: Grayson and Nyeomi; Aunts: Miranda Luckey (Michael), Angela Alfred, Deborah Richardson, Terri Benton of Mississippi; Uncles: Keith Williams, Joe Alfred Jr. (Beverly) and Cornelius Alfred. A Host of great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins, family and friends. LaKendrick was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Helen Ann Alfred; his paternal grandfather Larry Howard Turner and his aunt LaToya Alfred.
