The Life and Legacy of Lynda Henson

Lynda Henson lived a life distinguished by determination, service, generosity, and a genuine concern for others.

While attending Gladewater High School, Lynda began developing her interest in business by taking courses that prepared her for her future career. She was also an active member of the pep squad and distinguished herself as an All-Star volleyball player.

After graduating from high school, Lynda moved to Austin, Texas, where she attended Huston-Tillotson College to further pursue her interest in business. Continuing her education and professional development, she later attended Jackie Nell Executive Business College, graduating in 1978.

Lynda built a meaningful career centered on service to her community. She worked as a 911 dispatcher for the City of Austin, helping others during some of their most urgent and difficult moments. She later served for many years with the Texas Comptroller’s Office, where she worked with businesses and assisted with matters related to business taxes.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Lynda will be remembered most for her generous heart and willingness to help others. She freely gave her time by volunteering with the Runaway Hotline and continued serving members of her community through her work at Workforce Solutions. Whether through her career, volunteer service, or personal relationships, Lynda found joy in encouraging others and helping people find their way forward.

Lynda was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Turner Henson and Emma Lou Henson; her brothers, Donald Lynn Henson, Al Young, Laydell Young, and Elder Larry Lacosta Henson; and her sisters, Fannie Mae Young and Dorothy Burroughs.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory her children, Germane Henson and Charmaine Henson; her bonus sons, Kenneth Gibson and Ivory Johnson; her brother, Charles D. Young; her sisters, Corine Combs and Florine Ennis; 16 beloved grandchildren; a host of treasured great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Lynda’s life was a beautiful reflection of compassion, strength, and service. Although she will be deeply missed, the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the kindness she extended to others will remain an enduring part of her legacy.
