On July 8, 1936, a beautiful baby girl, was born to the proud parents of Lewis and Ora Lee Chafer, in Wills Point, Texas. This baby girl was the fifth of six children, and her name was Willie Mae Chafer. As a teen, Willie and her family moved from East Texas to Paducah, Texas where she graduated from high school. Willie always exhibited a caring and nurturing spirit. Instead of attending college, she chose to stay home to care for her father who had become very ill, and later passed away. She also took on the responsibility of raising her niece, Neva Joyce, up to the age of twelve. Later, she moved to Grand Prairie, Texas where she united with the Light House COGIC under the pastorage of the late Supt. W.E. Roberts. In this ministry is where she matured spiritually and received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. In 1962, Willie moved to Lubbock, Texas with her brother Otha and united with the Christ Temple COGIC. There she met the love of her life, Bro. Percy B. Phenix. Their 48 year union, was the joy of Willie's life. From their union was born three children; David Glenn Phenix, Felicia Carol Phenix (who preceded her in death) & Percy Bernard Phenix, Jr. After accepting his call to the ministry and serving as the Assistant Pastor at Christ Temple, Eld. P.B. Phenix became the pastor of the First COGIC of Slaton, Texas. He and Mother Phenix served together in ministry for over 41 years. Mother Phenix loved the Lord and served faithfully at her home Church (The First COGIC of Slaton) as the First Lady and in any other capacity needed. She served as the District Secretary for the Harvest Field District under Supt. R.L. Caro. She served as the Texas Northwest Jurisdictional Ministers and Pastors Wives President, under the Late Bishop W.H. Watson. After the passing of her husband in 2011, Mother Phenix served as the Church Mother of First Church under the leadership of her oldest son, Pastor David G. Phenix. She served faithfully until her health forced her to move to Fort Worth, Texas with her 2 sons. Mother Phenix leaves to mourn her passing, her sons Pastor David Glenn Phenix (Monica) from Fort Worth, TX and Elder Percy Bernard Phenix, Jr. (Nakia) from Arlington, Texas; Six Grandchildren, Demodric Cook, DeShawn Phenix (Vasati), Donovan Session, Kennington Bell, Tameara Phenix, & Addyson Phenix. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
