Oscar Lee Jones Jr. was born January 8, 1934 to Artelia and Oscar Jones in Elysian Fields, Texas. He was the next to oldest son of thirteen children, his parents and eleven of his siblings and a daughter preceded him in death. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Boggy Baptist Church under the ministry of Rev. James Howard.
He attended Elysian Fields Public Schools. He later met and married the love of his life Annie Mae Traylor on November 4, 1959 in Dallas, Texas, to this union three children were born.
Joe was the "Patriarch" of his family and was a very dedicated family man and hard worker. During his working years, he often worked both a full-time as well as a part-time job. He worked part-time as a custodian for Dallas Independent School District for many years while also working full-time as a crew chief/driver for the City of Dallas Sanitation Department. Joe was the small business owner/operator of "Jones Drive-In Grocery" in South Dallas in the late 1960's. He was also a self-employed landscaper for "Joe's Lawn Care". He loved to travel, play dominoes and have fun with family and friends, he lived an adventurous life.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 62 years Anne; one son, Terry Shawn Jones (Angela) and two daughters, Yolanda Qualman (Tom) and Kimberly Miles (Steve); one sister, Judy Bennett of Rowlett, Texas; twenty-one grandchildren, Terry S. Jones Jr., Terry S. Jones III, Terry S. Jones IV, ShaDana Jones, Rheagan Jones, Terra Jones, Shanise Jones, Sherry Jones, Celencia Jones, Deondray Jones, Chrstieunna Jones, Brandon Jones, Shatrina Jones, Dashamin Jones, Demarkes Allen, Corey Aaron, Rheymon Aaron, Keaton Miles, Kortrijk Miles and Kyjai Miles; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a caring Goddaughter, Lottie Cuthberson of St. Petersburg, Florida. He also leaves to cherish his memory many nieces, nephews, family members, friends and neighbors who loved him dearly.
