Ruby Ruth
Edwards Sweat
Jan 19, 1931 — May 12, 2025
Ruby Ruth Edwards Sweat was born on January 19, 1931 to A. Wilford Edwards and Addie
Earnestine Myers Edwards in Streetman, Texas. In His infinite wisdom, God called her home on
Monday, May 12, 2025, giving us one more Mother's Day to share our love with her.
In her early years, Ruby attended school in Freestone County until her family relocated to
Addison, Texas. Later, she attended school in the Fort Worth Independent School District. Her
family would finally settle in Irving, Texas.
After World War II, Ruby met and married Corporal Matthew Sweat, Sr. and to this union, the
family was blessed with five children. Matthew and Ruby were married for over 60 years until
the Lord called Matthew home in 2014.
Ruby accepted the Lord as her savior at an early age. Following her relocation to Irving, Texas,
she joined Evergreen Baptist Church. Along with her parents, husband, and some of her siblings,
she later became one of the founding members of New Home Missionary Baptist Church in the
Bear Creek community of Irving, Texas where she continued to be a faithful member, a
Deaconess, and Church Mother, attending until her health declined. She also served as Mission
President and sang in the choir for several years. She served her church in any way she could.
Ruby was preceded in death by her loving husband, Matthew Sweat, Sr.; her parents, A. Wilford
and Addie Earnestine Edwards; her son, Willie Hubert Sweat; and five sisters and seven
brothers.
Those left to cherish and share her precious memories: daughters, Cathryn Sweat Potts (Mickey),
Marilyn Sweat Robinson (Milton), and Debra Sweat Barron (Eddie); son, Matthew Sweat, Jr.
(Nicholle); honorary daughters as well as biological granddaughters, La Sharon Wilson and
Tiffany Parker; honorary son, Willie Bumcon (Patricia); grandchildren, Lonlisa Sweat, Anthony
Sweat, Reginald Sweat, Tracy Brown, Dahaun Tyme, Krista Franklin, Daniel Sweat, Dante
Sweat, Romesha Williams, Damian Sweat, and Demitri Miller; 21 great-grandchildren and 3
