The children of God have been styled as comprising a vast collection of jewels, filled with a myriad of gems such as Diamonds, Emeralds, Pearls, and the like. On November 7, 2021, our Lord reached His heavenly hand into His jewelry box and chose a beautiful "Ruby." Ruby Lee Young Williams was born, in Shelby County, Texas, to the union of Houston Roy Young and Queen Victoria Moore Young as their first child. She attended school in Joaquin and Timpson, Texas where she graduated from Timpson "Colored" High School. After high school, she moved to Gladewater and briefly attended Texas College in Tyler, Texas. She always encouraged her children to get an education and to work hard. In her late 50s she attended Kilgore College and took some classes which afforded her an opportunity to work in the social work department at University of Texas Health Center Ruby worked as a waitress at her great-uncles Henry Fountain's café – The Snack Bar. Later she worked at various textile and manufacturing companies in Gladewater, Longview, and Gilmer. While working in Gilmer, she would take Gladewater Bear outfits to work and stoke the Bear-Buckeye rivalry! She supported each of her children in their academic and extracurricular activities and the grandchildren. She attended as many of the grandchildren's graduations – high school and college – as possible. She was a proud grandmother! Ruby received Christ and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and later became a member of Rising Star Church Of God In Christ. She had a great love for attending her local church, District Meetings, and the State Convocations. She took great pride in assisting Mother Elsa Murphy by driving her to the conventions. One of the first persons you would see as you entered the building during the Holy Convocations of Texas Northeast Third Jurisdiction in its infancy was Sis. Ruby Williams. She proudly served as a greeter by the late Bishop Frank W. Smith. Our Lord blessed Ruby with the gift of faith and an indomitable spirit. Preceded in death by her husband, Earl Walter Williams, parents, Queen Victoria Barnes, Houston Roy and Rosetta Young, sisters, Helen Kirk, Joyce Webb, and Bettye Williams, brothers, Elbert Young and Jimmie Ray Barnes, sister-in-law, Maudell Williams Clayton, brothers in law, A.W. Williams, Albert Flowers, and James Kirk. Cherishing her memory and celebrating her advancement to God's kingdom are her daughters, Rhenechia Jones, Dallas, TX, Agnes Williams, Tyler, TX, and Stacey (Jamison) Jackson, Cypress, TX, sons, Alvis Young, Humble, TX and Charmyst (Anika) Amie, Tyler, TX, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Sisters, Wanda Flowers, Dorris (Geroge) Harris, Eunice (Charles) Williams, Linda (James) Parker, Bertha Young, Rosemary (Don) Yarbrough, and Vicci Latham, brothers, Billy Ray (Dorothy) Barnes, Eugene (Velma) Young, Houston Roy Young, Willie Young, Ronnie Young, Tracy (Yolanda) Young, and Elroy Young. Brother-in-law, Earsley Webb and an enormous host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
