Mother Ophelia Evans State Supervisor of Women Texas Northeast Third Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction. Mother Ophelia Evans, a native of Sulphur Springs, Texas and a product of the Church of God in Christ, was born on August 9, 1925 to Richard Langley and Mother Tennie Langley Willis. She was educated in the Sulphur Springs Independent School District. She pursued private and public jobs throughout the City of Sulphur Springs. Mother Evans is the wife of the late Deacon Eddie Joe Evans, Sr, and the mother of two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Evans (deceased) and National Evangelist Dr. Beverly Willis of Sulphur Springs, Texas. The uniqueness of Mother Evans has been witnessed by many in the community. Mother was recognized as a positive role model for ALL races. She has received numerous awards and recognition for her faithful service in her community and church. She has received the Woman of the Year Award from Sulphur Springs, Texas City Council in 2012; Dr. Martin Luther King Award for Social Change in Hopkins County; The National Whole Truth Paper Magazine honored her as one of the Outstanding Women for 2016. The Mayor and City Leaders of Sulphur Springs, Texas declared an official "Ophelia Evans Day" August 16th and The Mayor of Texarkana, Texas declared April 27, 2010, as "Ophelia Evans Day". Mother Evans received the Doretha McAfee Finer Womanhood Award on February 18, 2017 which was presented by Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Beta Tau Sigma Chapter and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Gamma Kappa Zeta Chapter. After the death of Elder S. A. Wells, Mother served under the following Pastors at Mitchell Chapel Church of God in Christ in Sulphur Springs, Texas, Elder B.J. Mitchell (1920), Bishop D.L. Smith (1950), Elder C.H. McNeece (1959), Bishop T.D. Daniels (1967), Supt. B.L. Turman (1970), Bishop F.W. Smith (1995) and Bishop Nelson Jarvis Gatlin (1997). Mother served as the Y.P.W.W. (Young People Willing Workers) President, Sunday School teacher, Church Secretary and President of the Y.W.C.C. (Young Women's Christian Council). In the Greenville District Mother served as Chairlady of the Y.P.W.W. Department under Elder E. L. Battles and District Sunday School Field Representative under Elder S. W. Harvey. Mother Evans served in Texas Northeast First Jurisdiction as District Missionary of the Sherman District with Bishop T. W. Johnson for ten (10) years. With faithfulness comes promotion. In 1990 she was elevated to Jurisdictional Supervisor of the Texas Northeast Third Women's Department under the leadership of Bishop Frank Walter Smith, Jr. At the demise of the late Bishop Frank W. Smith, Mother Evans served with Bishop T. W. Johnson for 14 years. At her home going, Mother was serving with Bishop Nelson Jarvis Gatlin, Third Bishop in Succession, and has rendered service to Texas Northeast Third Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction for 30 Years. The Lord has truly blessed this Woman of God. Mother was an asset to the State Women's Department, a woman of great wisdom and inspiration, blessed with longevity, blessed with great love for God's people, and a proven Proverbs 31:10 Woman. Mother Ophelia Evans was truly our dearly beloved Sainted State Supervisor of the Women's Department of Texas Northeast Third Jurisdiction. Mother Evans is preceded in death by both parents, Richard Langley and Mother Tennie Langley Willis; husband, Deacon Eddie Joe Evans, Sr.; brothers – Cecil Langley and Henry Charles Langley; sisters – Elgie Walker, Florence Watson, Sarah Langley and Margaret Beatty. Her beloved daughter Mrs. Barbara Evans and son Joe Evans; granddaughter – Tammy Evans and grandson – Minister Kevin Willis. A nephew Floyd Cullors and nieces Bettye Wheeler and Margaret Harnage. Mother Evans leaves to cherish her memory and legacy a beloved daughter, Dr. Beverly Willis of Sulphur Springs, Texas and sons Deacon Eddie Evans (Linda) of Tyler, Texas and Deacon Hubert Evans (Carol) of Carson, California; sister Lillian Sims of Dallas, Texas; one brother-in-law Eddie Evans, Jr. (Eva) and two special nieces – Jean Fuller and Diane Hoskins, both of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren: Eric Willis (Keitha), Janae Evans, Christopher Evans (Denise), Kedric Evans, Jana Evans, Sharon Brown (Anthony), Linda Gail Schelling (Steve), Gary Evans, Marsha Wilson Eddie Mae Bell (Carlos), Rayford Evans (Shannon), Stan Evans (Cindy) and Cejie Evans; great-granddaughters, Erica Alexandria Willis and Nikki Cash; three special daughters – Missionary Audine Turman, Huelene Person and Della Pearl O'Neil, two special sons – Evangelist Timothy Ransom and Mike Emerson two special granddaughters and her Nurses - Denise Bryant and Jennifer Murray Hickerson. Mother Evans was loved throughout the National Church of God in Christ, Bishop and First Lady Nelson Jarvis Gatlin, Mitchell Chapel Church of God in Christ, the Superintendents, Pastors and Elders, the Women's Department and Laity of Texas Northeast Third Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, the Carriage House Caregivers, 1st Choice Home Health, special nurses Connie Mills and Jessie Brown and a host of other daughters, saints, relatives, family and friends.
